I attended Essence's 2nd Annual Street Style Block Party yesterday. I heard about it through Facebook and I decided why not go, this would be great to blog about. It was in DUMBO, Brooklyn, so right under the Manhattan Bridge. It began at 12 but my friends and I arrived at around 3. It was so nice out before we got on the train but once we got off the sky was gloomy. We already traveled all the way to Brooklyn and we were not going to turn around. We walked around for a little bit and it was a lot more than we expected. We thought it was a cute little street fair so we dressed simple. Everyone was all dressed up because there were media people from Essence Magazine doing interviews and taking pictures because you possibly be featured on the website or even in the magazine I assume. There were also multiple DJs, there was a fashion show (which we missed :( ), a Shea Moisture booth, where they were doing hair, there were little booths where you could shop for clothes. So much was going on in one little area. It was so crowded and our first thought was FOOD. There were plenty of food trucks and as soon as we saw WINGS we immediately joined the line lol. But we waited for pretty much an hour an a half and they didn't have anymore wings we had to settle for chicken tenders. It was so good though, or maybe because we were starving, idk. We didn't really do anything because by the time we got our food, it was over. The street style was so beautiful and eccentric. I didn't get to take any pictures :( but I'm sure there is plenty of coverage about it on ESSENCE.COM. But none the less, I love the idea of bringing people together who enjoy STYLE. My friends and I will definitely be prepared for next year ;)
